One Sydney Park is a major development surrounded by the hugely popular 44 hectare Sydney Park and comprising of retail, creative workspaces, 356 apartments and 380 parking spaces across 7 buildings. Architecture is by MHNDU and Silvester Fuller and Landscape Design is by Sue Barnsley Design. Nigel Dickson was appointed by Mills Oakley on behalf of the applicant as the Urban Design Expert. Nigel advised and negotiated crucial design refinements with Council’s Experts in a compressed timeframe during the Joint Conferencing process. These design refinements sought to create a high-quality interface between built form and the adjoining parklands and to achieve a positive streetscape outcome to busy Euston Park Road.

They included adjusting the position and setbacks of buildings in relation to the park landscape and busy roads as well as refining acoustic and landscape elements. Commissioner Walsh in his judgment which approved the $700m development accepted the evidence of the experts that the proposed development would be “compatible with Sydney Park and would not bring about an unreasonable adverse effect on user enjoyment of the park”.
