The Stadium designed by Dickson Rothschild was part of the design studies to support Qatar’s bids for the 2006 Asian Games, 2011 AFAC Asian Cup, 2022 FIFA World Cup. To be located in the Doha sports city complex, the Stadium was designed with 60,000 seats and with playing venues geared primarily to soccer.

The dramatic design was inspired by the shape of the traditional Arab fishing boat “dhow” and featured an innovative solar panel in the form of a triangular sail. The operations of the stadium were state of the art, including reticulated air-conditioning to maximise comfort of the city’s year-round extreme hot weather.
