This existing industrial building by Camperdown Memorial Park in Newtown currently turns its back to the park. The development proposes a new inviting opening between the building and park and to create a café-restaurant that will activate the park through the provision of food and drink.

 

The proposal also has an attractive heritage façade to Australia Street and will become an additional gateway between the park and the street. The link is like an internal laneway with the potential to house delis and other businesses that will service locals and visitors. 

 

Unprecedented in the area, Australia does not have a culture of restaurants & cafes adjacent to public parks. Dickson Rothschild and the Client a believe that hybrid programs like this have the potential to enhance public and semi-public spaces and can facilitate new cultural events.
